Mister F.
A retelling of Mary Shelley’s classic horror tale, Frankenstein to celebrate the 200th anniversary of publication. Frankenstein has been often referred to as the first science-fiction novel though earlier novels with proto science-fiction elements exist. Whether truly the first or not, Frankenstein is an amazing story that has influenced artists and writers for two centuries.
This artful mini-book was created to vend from a vintage cigarette machine. A unique format was chosen to engage viewers with an analog machine from our past that many of a younger generation have never seen. The vending machine helps give the book which is quite small, a more visible footprint when on display.
Over nine spreads, the story of Frankenstein is told using phrases selected from the original story. I illustrated each of these spreads, depicting the development of both Mister F.'s lives; the doctor from his youth up through schooling and his experimentation leading to his creation and the ensuing degradations that the creature endures from his creator and others.
