About Me
It all started when…
Since 2012, Angel Bomb has been creating letterpress artist books and has published seven books to date. My first two received funding assistance through artist grants including a Jerome Book Arts Grant from the MN Center for Book Arts for the publication of The Airship and an Artist Initiative Grant from the MN State Arts Board for American Manifesto.
I feel honored to have received these awards as it shows strong support from the arts community and belief in my work. They helped give me the confidence to work towards my goal of creating books full-time. American Manifesto was also the recipient of a MN AIGA Design Award in 2014. I have also been the Master Printer for two highly sought-after Winter Books published by MN Center for Book Arts: every-blest-thing-seeing-eye (2016) and The War Between the Water and the Road (2014).
As a 2023 McKnight Book Arts Fellow, I am encouraged to keep creating books that explore our relationship with the narrative and the book as an art object.
Artist statement
My artist books explore themes of exploration and discovery through interactions with book structures, materials, and design choices. My artistic vision is to facilitate deeper emotional connections to my books and promote curiosity by creating works that excite the reader’s senses. I design ergodic books that require the reader to participate in the story. The analog nature of exploring a book is frequently lost given our mass consumption of digital media, and I believe that people long to experience something unique and engaging. Through these interactions, my readers connect with the book as an embodiment of craft, an artistic object, and form more sustained memories through exploration.
